CD BAI CEREMONIES ETHNIC GROUP RECORDED AROUND DALI YUNNAN CHINA IN APRIL MAY 2008
The Bais are nearly 2 millions, spread around Dali s Erhai lake and Cangshan mountain in west Yunnan. During centuries, they have been influenced by Buddhism, Taoism and various Han music styles.The Bai music can be divided in 2 categories, religious or entertaining.
Cai Cun the village by the Erhai lake in Dali, is the home of lots of musicians and singers, this Bai community is very active in maintaining all kinds of ceremonies and Bai rituals known as BENZHU. On this cd you can listen to a miaohue a village festival, gathering hundreds of people through the small streets of Cai cun towards a temple where a traditional music ensemble is gathered with string instruments as much as percussions and religious recitation.You can also listen to musicians performing for a new house and a third part with 3 musicians performing for a post funeral ceremony.

Tracks 8 and 9 recorded during a post funeral ceremony happening at least 100 days after the person died, performed by 3 men, one is the leader of the ceremony conducting according to a book in Han language and use pairs of cymbals and various percussions with a flute player and an alterning sanxian and reed player.
